drive belts

Hi, has anyone had problems with drive belts? I have got through 5 belts in 15,000 miles and it is becoming an expensive irritation. Much of my riding is off road or on tracks and I think that part of the issue is dirt or stones getting onto the belt. Belt failure always occurs when using lots of throttle in sport mode at low speeds, for example off traffic lights, when it is wet. I wonder whether wear on the front sprocket can be the cause. Anyway, all advice or thoughts welcome. Are there any aftermarket belt guards or wider belts and sprockets?

What type of bike? If Zero, you can change to a drive chain. Page 28 here.
